Purple and Yellow – Oil On Canvas

Purple and Yellow – Oil On Canvas

This thick textured work makes up another piece in my first oil painting series exploring complementary colour relationships using florals and botanicals on tiled abstracted backgrounds. This one is a tiny little 5″x5′ canvas. On the old colour wheel the complement of purple is yellow, so that is what I am playing around with here. I wanted to use some rich tones in this piece, really firing up those bright colours.
I’m quite a fan of impressionism generally and would like to be able to get my work closer to that look, so something of an attempt was made on that here with the use of texture and colour in the flower – though I’ve really hit something much closer to post-impressionism. I still consider this a succesful experiment though, given the place I’m starting at feels quite modern, its good to have this sense of ‘going back in time’ with my work.

I really am quite a fan of how this painting turned out.
