This piece was my very first oil painting. I’ve been exploring complementary colour relationships and this piece is an expression of those studies. In the older colour wheel the complement of blue was orange, and in the modern colour wheel it is yellow, so this piece explores both the old and the new colour wheels. A visual effect is created when you put complementary colours next to each other wherein they artificially brighten each other. It creates an effect that is bold and fun. This piece uses thick impasto strokes on a tiled abstracted background.
